About the event
Mercedes Biocca was born in 1980 in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has a degree in Political Sciences and a Masters in International Economic Relations, both from the Universidad de Buenos Aires. In 2010 she relocated to Norway for her doctoral studies and in May 2015 obtained the title of PhD in Sociology from the University of Bergen. She is currently a Postdoc researcher at CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council - Argentina) and an Associate Researcher at the Institute of Higher Social Studies (IDAES) Universidad de San Martin, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Her research focuses on rural issues associated with the spread of agribusiness, the different forms of rural existence imposed by the state and the challenges that face indigenous communities in the north of Argentina in the neoliberal and post-neoliberal period.
Mercedes is also an activist, member of the Cooperative of Professors and Researchers of Popular Education (CEIPH -http://ceiphistorica.com), and she works as a teacher at Bachillerato Popular Maderera Cordoba.
