Vevila holds a BA(hons) and an MSc in Geography from Universidade de Brasília (UnB), and she's for a long time interested in the emerging field of Digital Geographies. In her undergraduate and masters research, she investigated the territorialities of social network websites, and public policies for digital inclusion in her home country, Brazil. Her current PhD at the University of Reading is a comparative case study of the gendered geographies of online gaming, looking for gendered spatial practices and power relations within those virtual worlds. She is verifying whether her case, League of Legends, is a gendered space, investigating the existence of homo-social online spaces and understanding the nature of gender relations in those worlds. Ultimately, by comparing participants' experiences in UK and Brazil, she is verifying possible correlations between different levels of gender equality and ICT access to distinctive (and probably unequal) gender relations in online spaces. In the industry, Vevila has professional experience with GIS in urban and environmental planning. Vevila is a CAPES-Brazil funded student.
