My background is in public policy and I have always been intersted in citizen participation and the extent to which it affects structures of local governance. Currently, alongside my colleague Dr Gisela Zaremberg (FLACSO-Mexico), I am studying the quality of participation, in juxtaposition with grassroot mobilisations and socio-legal action, in neoextractive(ist) projects in Mexico (mining, hydrocarbons and renewable energies). This project is funded by the British Academy-Newton Advanced Fellowship Scheme (2017-2020).
