Member Profiles

Matthew Aaron Richmond is Research Associate at the Centro de Estudos da Metrópole, São Paulo. He completed a PhD in human geography at King's College London in 2015 and previously completed an MPhil in social sciences at the University of Cambridge. His work explores various issues relating to urban inequality and informality in Latin America, with a focus on the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. He has research and written on themes including urbanisation and housing, security, neoliberalisation, assemblage theory and subjectivity formation. Matthew previously worked as an urban regeneration consultant in London and as an English teacher and translator in Bogotá. He speaks fluent Portuguese and Spanish.
