During an internship with the IIAP (Instituto de las Investigaciones de la Amazonía Peruana) I discovered the Amazonian peatlands. The complexity of these ecosystems, their unique biodiversity, their role in climate change, and the fact that they are inhabited were so many aspects arousing my curiosity. I then discovered that there was still a lot to understand about these North-Eastern Peruvian tropical peatlands and their management. A 6-month internship on tropical peatlands at the University of St Andrews allowed me to strengthen my research interests, and to identify some research gaps. I particularly noticed that there were a lot of conservation strategies implemented in the region, but little evaluation and systematization of the knowledge about these strategies. I continued with a PhD in St Andrews that I started in September 2021 thanks to the Robertson Postgraduate Scholarship on “Identifying and assessing sustainable livelihood options and strategies for maintaining tropical peatland ecosystem services in the north-eastern Peruvian Amazon. »
