I am a Lecturer in International Development and Geography at the University of Sussex. My doctoral thesis ‘Territory, Resistance and Struggles for the Plurinational State: A Spatial Analysis of the TIPNIS Conflict’ explored a contemporary Left-indigenous movement that formed in resistance to the Bolivian government’s proposal to build a road through an indigenous territory and national park, known as the TIPNIS. My research interests focus on the spatialities of social movements and activism, indigenous politics and environmental justice. A key aspect of my work is on understanding the vital role of civil society actors in shaping development agendas in the Global South.
